Welcome back to my blog! Today is New Year’s Eve and I am really excited to start the new year but I thought I’d end 2018 with a little post about the beauty products, books and a few of the things that I have loved this year!
So, I’m going to start with something that I have used everyday (all day) for almost the whole year – rose water. I discovered rose water around 10 months ago and I am HOOKED. I buy a big bottle on Amazon and pour into little spray bottles, using as a toner after cleansing, before putting on make – up, as a refreshing spray throughout the day and even after make up to set and give an extra bit of dewiness to the skin. Rose water helps maintain the Ph balance of the skin and controls excess oil, it also has anti-inflammatory properties that help to reduce any redness, eczema and acne. It hydrates the skin, cleanses pores, is an antioxidant and the scent can even help to reduce anxiety. Is there anything it doesn’t do? It’s also super cheap and lasts forever. Always make sure you buy 100% pure rose water – it is completely natural and free of any nasty chemicals. I always buy this one – but any will do as long as it’s 100% pure.
The next product I have been LOVING this year is the Bare Minerals complexion rescue tinted hydrating gel cream. I have two young kids and I don’t get a lot of time for make up. I also generally tend to wear minimal make up, opting for a more fresh and natural look. Those days when I need a little something to help even out my skin tone or just feel more presentable, this is my go to. It’s basically a tinted moisturiser so goes on really smooth and easy and gives my skin a soft, dewy and hydrated complexion. You can layer it for extra coverage but I tend to only use a small amount just to give that even tone without becoming too heavy. I use it in shade Natural 05. It just gives that natural flawless finish in about 5 seconds flat – which, let’s face it, is pretty much all the time I have 😅
Next up and last beauty product is the Bert’s Bees Cleansing Oil. Again this is a little more pricey than other cleansers I have used BUT it lasts such a long time. It’s super quick to use, 1 or 2 pumps, rubbed all over the face, rinse away with warm water and all your make up just slides away. It really works. And because it’s an oil it doesn’t leave the skin feeling dry – something I’ve always suffered with when washing the face with water. I also love knowing that it’s completely natural – that’s got to be beneficial to the skin right?!
The next thing is not a product as such but something I have absolutely loved this year is experimenting with making smoothies. I have never been the most healthy person but after a few blood tests found that I have a low immune system I decided to start trying to take better care of myself and making sure I got more of the right things inside me to give me more energy, boost my immune system and also just to feel better and to improve my health in general. I got a cheap blender (Something I now regret as it doesn’t always work so well) and started experimenting. I’ve had some that I love and some complete disasters but even then I think if it tastes so bad it has to be good for me 😂 Here’s one for glowing skin that I love! I do feel like when you take better physical care if yourself it has a huge impact on your mental well-being and this is something I definitely want to keep up with in the new year.
This leads me onto my next item – The Five Minute Journal. I have always been interested in mindfulness, meditation and positive thinking as a way of coping with anxiety and stresses of life but I just don’t seem to find the time to really get into it. So when my mum bought me this diary for my birthday back in April I was really up for giving it a go and I can honestly say I’ll definitely be getting another. It’s so easy to keep on top of and has become a natural part of my day most mornings and evenings (you can see mine is well-used from the picture). It is a very simple diary for you to note each morning the things that you are greatful for, things that will make your day great, a daily affirmation and each night, amazing things that happened and how you could have made your day better. I like the idea of reminding yourself to think positively about life and being greatful for the things you have. It’s such a simple thing but can help start your day in a much more focussed and positive way. I keep the journal next to my bed so I can write in it when I have a spare few minutes in the morning and then when I go to bed at night.
So there you have it – these are probably my MOST favourite items of 2018 that I will definitely be taking into the new year with me. For now, I’m I’m looking forward to a quiet evening in my PJs ready to start 2019!
